You just need to toughen up those paws a bit. Take up a career in stone masonry, I can guarantee you you’ll be able to hold way more fish before they get that bad ?

I guess so! Ive had my thumb get scratched up, but never saw anything like that. Thats how my hands look after handling camshafts from dumptrucks!

People are just making jokes and telling me I'm weak, while ignoring the rest. These bass have very sharp teeth right now and they weren't like this until recently. I'm actually looking for real answers. It's like something triggered when the temps dropped and they began to feed heavily.

Sorry bud. Not trying to make anybody mad. I really dont know about the teeth. Ive never seen them aggressive enough to do that. As others have said on here, from lake to lake they have noticed differences in the teeth. I havent noticed any that would do that myself. There was a reply with a close up of a bass mouth with much more pronounced teeth than im used to seeing. So it may be a regional thing or have to do with what they eat as others have said. I really dont know. Didnt mean to get you mad, just having a little joke.

Sun gloves with the leather palms keep mine from getting too torn up. Not a big fan of my thumbs bleeding from catching a bunch of fish.

Their teeth don't change with the cooler temps. Could be a combination of things. Catching more fish than normal. Fish with more fish flopping more while you're handling them doing more damage. Catching bigger fish than normal. If your hands are staying wet, your skin will tear easier than dry skin.

I agree that their teeth are way sharper this time around. I also agree that the bass thumb is a honor to have.

Spotted Bass can destroy your thumb.

What he said. Kind of a repetitive stress injury from fishing. Also, lipping and unhooking about 20 or 30 large white bass can chew up a thumb. Bigger fish have bigger teeth and the extra weight they have causes more damage when they struggle to get off your thumb, especially when tossing them back in the water. As we age, our skin also gets thinner (not calling anybody around here old!).

Grab white bass like this and they freeze, I mean they will not move a muscle and you can catch 75-100 with minimal hand damage. I survive on white bass fillets all winter and spring 9-DFE7077-474-B-4-CBA-90-DA-17-C571-C5-C

Yep, just like that. I have caught thousands like that below Pickwick Dam. What dam is that in the background?

That’s just a bunch of barges at an industrial park

My thumb looked like that a few times this year and I attributed it to old age and thinner skin.
