Just curious what people have to say. Still looking but is there a rod around 7' with a fast enough tip to walk a 3/4 oz ish walk the dog topwater, but more parabolic when hooked up. for some context i have used the an old 6'10" shimano MH crucial great soft tip, but hit the backbone too quickly and not parabolic at all. dobyns fury 705cb way to flimsy, dobyns sierra 703c i did like how it loaded up, but just the taper was a bit too parabolic  so couldn't walk the bigger topwaters well, sierra 704c worked the bait well loaded up decently, but at close quarters when the fish surges the graphite does not flex as well and hooks can be pulled...

 

maybe i am searching for something that cant be found, but curious to hear the collective knowledge of you all!

to add i have a 6'6" medium fast avid and plan to get a 6'11" megabass levante jerkbait special that will fulfill my smaller popper/walking type topwaters...i do like how the avid loads up on my jerkbaits and smaller topwaters...its the larger topwaters im "struggling" to find a good fit

I love the Megabass XX Diablo Spec-R for full size walking baits.  Might not seem like it on paper, but it's fantastic for the full size walkers IMO.  Loads well for long cast, tip is good for walking, and the mod-fast taper handles trebles very well even on braid.  

I use a G. Loomis 844C IMX for most of my top water.  It has a soft enough tip and has good hook setting power.   I have had this rod for almost 15 years. I have tried others for topwater/frogs and this rod has always been the best of them.

Are you using braid?  That may help with the rods that seem too soft or parabolic.

I am using braid to mono leader.

I was throwing a super spook today and the rod I use is a bps crankin stick 7’3 heavy. It’s perfect a 7’ mh might be perfect for the 3/4 oz baits.

Check out the Daiwa Tatula Elite TAEL721MHRB. It is a 7'2" MH rod with Daiwa's "regular" taper wich is pretty close to a mod fast. I find it is pretty close to what you are looking for. It is plenty fast enough for walking a spook, but loads up very well to keep the fish pinned once you get one on. I have been using one mainly as my topwater rod this year, and it has been pretty much perfect for the job.

Why?  Use your 704C with 19 lb Sunline Defier Armillo 19 lb and set the drag at 4-5 lbs.

You didn’t mention what line you’re using but try that 705cb with braid before you spring for a new rod, you might be surprised.

Edit nvm didn’t see you mentioned you use braid already.

Like walleyecrazy mentioned, I would check to see if Daiwa has a 7'0 MH in their Regular action. I have the Tatula 7'0 M/R and it's for shallow cranks & topwaters, but 3/4 oz would be to much for it. I use mine for 1/2 oz Whopper Plopper, but have thrown a WP 110 & 6th Sense Cloud 9 weighing 5/8 oz on mine, I just wouldn't do it all the time.

Like you are, I'm using a 6' 10 Shimano Crucial in MH and have not found anything better yet for big ( 5 inches or more) topwater walking baits. My Shimano Expride in 6'8'' MH comes a very close second.

i honestly like the responsiveness and control of braid. it is only at the boat where i feel a bit disadvantaged...i was thinking that if i ran a slightly longer leader and a stretchier mono that it might help the last minute surges at the boat

How much do you think line stretches? It takes about 35% force of the line strength to begin to yield it. What anglers feel as line stretch is line drag going through the water, mono stretchs very little % of length. Your 6-7' leader may stretch under 40% force about 1/4".

Set your drag at 3-4 lbs and trust it!
