Silent squarebills and wakebaits

Featured Replies

What is your favorite silent squarebill, and wakebait? I've recently started fishing a small pond close to my house.( so I can get in an  hour or 2 after work) This po d is EXTREMELY pressure. The fish wont touch a bait with rattles, but I've found they will take a silent squarebill pretty regularly. Any recommendations are welcome and appreciated.

Lucky Craft silent 1.5-come in a ton of great colors.  They run about 18"-3ft depending on line and rod position

KVD 1.5-good colors, actions are consistent.  Run a little shallower then the LCs.

Rapala Shallow Shad Rap- Tight wobble, consistent action, deflects very well. Not the best bait for long casts

Hard to beat the LC 1.5 Silent...but on heavily pressured waters I agree silent models seem to work better.   One of my favorite baits to throw in these scenarios are old Bagley Balsa B series baits.  From what I see a lot of people don't throw old school balsa baits so I think its different wobble to the fish.  Unfortunately they don't offer that many colors so most of my Bagleys are all repaints I had done.

Ima Bill Lowen squarebill. My CRR-5 Rapala SB is out of production, so I really shouldn't recommend it to someone.     jj

I've had good luck with several Lucky Craft silent squarebills, Norman Fat Boys and several others, but the one that I would throw in your situation would be the River2Sea Biggie, probably in the smalls size. They have a very natural looking wobble to them - I've fished it in schools of baitfish and it moves surprisingly close to them! I have some Lucky Crafts LC silent models that are similar. KVD 1.5s are also a safe bet for most scenarios.

I've also had great luck with Megabass S Cranks and the Booyah Flex 2 both which have a more aggressive wobble and when the fish are really biting, they will hammer them.
