Which do you think would be better for drop shot? With 10 lb braid, line capacity doesn't seem like it would be an issue.

I'd go with the 2500, simply for the extra IPT.

It is a personal choice, standard bass gear trend to start at 2500. I choose 2000 over 2500. I like smaller and lighter reel, it a lot easy on my wrist and my shoulder for finesse type fishing. The 2000 has less drag but I found it adequate for regular bass fishing. Casting distance might not be as good as 2500 but again, I don’t need to cast far for this technique, mostly it target fishing. Line management, I use braid so smaller size spool is not an issue. IPT, I don’t need 34 IPT for bass fishing, that even more than regular 7.2 gear on most baitcaster, to me speed up is a lot easier than slow down. The only thing I like on 2500 size is longer handle.

Again personal choice. 
I use spinning only Finesse down to UL so 2000 fit me better. If I’m going Finesse up to light power fishing like Jig, Senko, weight Texas rig, I might go for 2500 or even 3000, but that my baitcasters are there for.

 

 

You may also want to consider the weight of the reels. These reels are so light they may not balance well on a longer rod. 

Personally I would choose the 2000 size because I like smaller reels.

My drop shot rod is the 6'10" expride ml spinning. A 5.3 oz 2000 size Vanford would be a delightful reel for it.

I’m having this same conundrum myself, 2000 or 2500.  This will be my first finesse setup, planning to go braid.  Tough to decide when you can’t compare both reels side by side.  Leaning towards 2000 but a little afraid it will feel too small.  Oh and then there’s the choice of a rod, but that will be coming next?

From what I understand, that is the same size as the 2000?

I bought three clearance ci4 in 1000, 2500 & 3000 sizes. 

Considering how light it is I went with the 2500 for the line capacity.

 

Also, @Bass_Fishing_Socal there might be something wrong with your reel. The 2500 is super smooth, buttery smooth, none of that gear-y feel. The 2000 shouldn't be any different, even on the higher ratio models. Mine's an HG and there's no difference in feel.

Hey, I've been stuck at home for a while. I've even been watching those "how to spool a reel" videos that folks put out from time to time, even thought I've been spooling reels since I was 9 or 10. That's how bored I am ?
