I'm confused. If their metabolism is slowed and they're eating less doesn't it follow that they are burning fewer calories by moving less and/or slower?

 I think they are moving less by chasing fewer baitfish. I also believe their day to day migration is a little bit less but they can still turn on the jets.

I agree with this. I do slot of cold water bass fishing..seems like when the water gets under mid 40s there ability to fight diminishes slot. Smallies seem to handle it better than largies but there is still a drop off in pulling power. I caught several last week in cold water...fight for a few seconds then its like reeling in a paper bag.
