GA Bass Slam.

Featured Replies

Does anyone fish for the GA Bass Slam put on by the DNR?  It's mostly done by kayak in rivers.  There are 10 species of black bass in GA and you have to catch 5 for the slam.

I keep thinking about doing it, even just informally.

I’ve got largemouth, spots, and shoal bass in GA this year. I’ve got Suwannee’s and smallmouth as well this year, just not in GA.

Outside of shoal bass, Chattahoochee bass are the ones I’m most interested in. From what I understand, your best chance for them is in private “trout water”, which is more than I’m interested in paying.

Recently I've put some thought into this. I'd like to make the road trip from South Florida and try to catch all 10 on one trip. It'll take a lot more research, but I think I might be able to spend a week driving around Georgia chasing these species. Would be a cool way to spend some time next summer.

bigbassin', The best place for a Chattahoochee bass is the upper Chattahoochee River.  This is the 4th year I'm doing the slam.  Arthur, it's lots of fun.  I usually spend several months doing the slam but due to Covid I've only spent a total of 5 trips for the 6 I've caught so far.

Ive thought about it but in the Savannah area you’re making a good trip for most of the species in north GA.

Of course large mouth is easy, and usually pick up a spot or too when I fish Clark’s Hill. Maybe next year I’ll go find a trip to hit the other three.

What is the criteria for being able to tell the difference between the types?I know spots, large, small.redeye, Bartram, and coosa we're different names for the same bass,I thought

I'd do it, but trying to identify the particulars of each fish I don't know my bass from my elbow ?

Go fish the Savannah River out of Hammond's Ferry on the SC side, you'll connect with a Bartram and smallie.
