ACTION NEEDED: Your Email Address

Featured Replies

Hey folks!  With the new forums comes the ability for me to validate the email addresses associated with your profiles. Basically I can tell whether or not it's still working.

What I discovered is that's there's a number of you that have old email addresses in your profiles that no longer exist.  That means you cannot use the "forgot password" feature, nor will you get the email notifications that you want.

So can you please check your profile and check to ensure everything is current?  You can check by clicking your name in the upper right, then "Account Settings".  From there you can change your email as well as your notification settings.

Thanks!

Glenn

If we're getting the Newsletters - does that mean it's good? Last one I got was 11/16/20

Verified my email is legit :)

I know my email address is right. I went in and changed my notification settings to stop email notifications and I still get that email about every time I log in here. I don't know what else to do since I am not real computer savvy anyway.

Newsletters are completely separate from the forums. They are not connected in any way.

That's because you're not accepting cookies from BassResource.  Whitelist BassResource in your anti-virus, anti-ad software, and/or accept cookies from BassResource in your browser, and those notifications will go away.

I don't know how to white list anything and I can't find anything in the programming on my anti virus to change anything with it. I am on windows 10 and using Mcafee anti virus protection. I am only on the internet on a desktop computer.

Thank you for trying to help me. If I am stuck with them that is just the way it goes.

What browser are you using?

I am using Google Chrome Incognito version.

Incognito version

There it is.  That's the reason.

Unless you have some serious reasons to use incognito mode, such as if you're a developer and need to QA your code, it's really not necessary.

As a former Network Administrator - I have to emphasize this...Cookies are NOT a danger to your system.

That's debatable, but I have faith that Bass Resource cookies are perfectly safe. ?

Okay I am on Google Chrome and I figured out how to get it to accept cookies from Bass Resource. I hope this works. I thank @Glenn and @Michigander for the help in figuring this out. If it works right I would prefer chocolate chip cookies. ?

Don't know what else I need to do but I am still getting the email when I log in.

You're getting an email when you log in? Sorry for the big text.

Sorry for the big text. There's minimal formatting control on here on mobile.

Chrome and Firefox privacy modes ignore "always allowed cookies" settings for each new session, which causes a new device record for every new Incognito session even though you're using the same browser.  I would argue Incognito mode is unnecessary, but if you choose to use it, then expect to get some odd behavior from various websites.

In Chrome, you can try to allow cookies from BassResource by going to Settings-->privacy and security-->cookies and other site data-->"sites that can always use cookies". Click "add" and enter "[*].bassresource.com"

This might help, but if you're using Incognito mode, the settings may be ignored.  Just another reason not to use it.

I changed my email address so hopefully I can use the forgot password and be able to log in from my phone now.

Yay! Finally!!!

That is what I did and I am not using the Incognito version but I still get the emails. Thanks for trying to help me.

I reviewed your profile, and it looks like you're not using "remember me" when logging in. Could you  log out, select this, then log in, then log out and log in again also with this selected.

Let me know if you then get the same issue after doing this.

I already had the remember me box checked but I tried doing what you said. I am still getting the email. I opened another window and checked and there was one there for this log in session.

New device log in. It says I am using a device They have never seen before. Since I use the same computer every time I don't know why it won't remember it.

When you go to Settings and Privacy and Security, what are your cookie settings?

It is set to accept cookies from Bass Resource.

What about your anti-virus software? Are you blocking cookies there?  Or do you have anti ad software set to block ads (sometimes that's a setting in Chrome, sometimes that's included in anti-virus software).

Honestly, unless you're visiting sites that are super ad-heavy (who would?), then you don't need to block ads, because often it ends up blocking other things you want.

I promise you, nobody designs websites for people that block cookies and ads.

  • Super User

I don't know if my anti virus is blocking cookies. I have been in to it and could not find a way to make any changes with it. I have not added any  programs to my computer that would block ads.
