Cabelas ZX rods: what blank / manufacturer

Featured Replies

Does anyone know who made the blanks or manufactured the bow discontinued Cabela’s ZX series rods?

Specifically, the 6’ 9 Medium fast jerkabit rod? I currently have one and frankly, it’s a perfect jerkbait rod. Not whippy when working the bait, but really loads up and turns into a noodle when with a fish on. Also, extremely light and perfectly balanced.

Im just looking for it’s twin.

I just mentioned this on another thread.  My discontinued Cabelas Salt Striker 3-pc travel rod is definitely made on the TFO Traveler blank.

Might be worth looking into

I believe those were made by Daiwa. Don't know what the Daiwa equivalent would be.

I have 8 or 9 of the zx rods and 2 of the jerkbait rods. I agree its the perfect jerkbait rod...wouldn't trade it for anything ive ever had in my hands. I also believe they were made by daiwa. Have no clue what the equivalent would be im always looking for more of the zx rods for sale and never see any anywhere.  It will be a sad day if and when I break any of them. I've fished them almost exclusively for over 5 years

Hmm Daiwa doesn’t offer a 6’ 9” rod that is similar. Their 6’ 9” her bait rod is like a soggy noodle.

The zx rods have been discontinued for a cple years. No telling who made em but I remember hearing it was daiwa. Im sure daiwa offers a similar stick in some rod but I doubt its gonna be the value the zx were.  Several companies offer similar sticks but not necessarily with winn grips and not usually for 99 bucks or cheaper. Ive been studying for 2 years on what the replacement will be and haven't found one yet.  13 fishing fate black rods are comparable in my opinion but theyre fluorescent green and have cork handles. Love the action and they offer a 6'7 medium.  The 7 ft med carbonlite 2.0 has similar action ive fished a jerkbait on them some and they're nice but still prefer the zx

daiwa had a line called ballistic years ago that had a 6'9 mh worm/jig rod in it.  i have 1 of the rods i use for spinnerbaits since it's way too soft for me for the stated techniques.

it is a fairly fast action rod, but it loads deep when a fish is hooked.  i prefer crank-type rods for spinnerbaits, so this works out well for me.  i've tried to find another 1 of these rods, but haven't had any luck.

I have the Frog Rog that I bought maybe 3 years ago. I've tried 'upgrading' my frog rod with other rods since then, but always find myself coming back to the ZX. It's a great rod. It's a great rod.

I thought I read once that Lew's actually made these rods. I could be wrong, but I thought it had been confirmed by someone.

Anyways, you may wanna give the Lew's TP-1 Black a look. It also has the Winn Grips. Many people like the jerkbait rod. It's $20 cheaper here than TW.

I think the rod looks like a Lew’s at least with the color.

Daiwa did have a 6'9" medium fast rod in their VIP Smallmouth rod series that sounds like it could be the same but it also was discontinued several years ago.
