Baits you've given up on?

Featured Replies

This is pretty funny to read because almost all the baits listed are stuff I throw regularly and do well on. There really aren’t any baits that I’ve given up on because they all have their situations, but if I had to pick one it would be a big curly tail worm like a 10” power worm. I have caught some big fish on them but they never seem to catch the numbers and size of fish that I get on a creature bait or jig in the same area. I need to try them some more because I know they have their place, especially in the summer when I’m fishing deep weed edges.

I've completely given up on Beetle Spins.  I don't think I've ever had a hit on one.

Hollow bodied frog, but not because I can't catch bass with it.  When I fish a frog it will attract every bullfrog in a 5 mile radius.

I never knew frogs went after frogs until this year! Got a dedicated frogging setup and first thing I catch is a bullfrog!!! Big sucker too. Put the rod through its paces!

Ive given up on the Lunkerhunt Yappa Bug. Looked cool and has that jitterbug front lip but hollow and weedless like a frog. I had hopes for it then I used it a few outings and it didn't wiggle like a jitterbug. All it did was take on water and sink. Tied on a SK Pad Perch and wham! So the crappa, I mean Yappa Bug is crappa to me.

I've broken a couple, but they've always been my fault from bouncing off rocks on the cast, slamming one into a bridge on the cast, fish throwing them into the side of the boat when they jump, things that understandably break a balsa bait. I've never had one break for mystery reasons like so many DTs and the first OG Slim I bought did to me.

Gotcha. Yeah I always hit a dock with them and reel in splinters

Soft plastic lizards for me. When I was a kid, I used to throw them all the time...A simple green pumpkin zoom lizard, and I would catch a lot of volume, but not a lot of big ones.

I have tried them again as I have progressed in my fishing life, and I cannot get a bite on one anymore.  I have tried them T-rigged and Carolina rigged, to no prevail.

My situation with the Zoom lizards is much the same as yours.

I’m not getting skunked, and can’t say I’m setting the world on fire. Bass have been on the smaller size also. Didn’t loose confidence or anything. I’ve only been throwing the Green Pumpkin and Watermelon Seed in 4”.

I may have to step up to 6” lizards ? to be able to play with a few more color patterns I’d like to throw.

I got back into throwing them more and put into the mix because I don’t think they get used a lot in my area. You don’t see them in shops for the most part.

Good luck.
