So I'm thinking about switching all or most of my spinning rods to braid and add mono or flouro leader when needed. Ive been told that on older rods, the braid will tear up my guides because they are not made for it but there may be a certain kind of braid I can use that is not so aggressive. As you can tell, I dont use braid much so is any of this true? I dont fish every weekend so can I get away with this or what do you recomend?

I've been using braid on my spinning rods since the late 90's and never had a problem. Though I guess it depends on how old your rods are.

 

If you're really worried about it, I would think a slippery braid would saw less on your guides, so like a Smackdown (excellent).

Im going to look into the newest braids out there and see how they are recommended. My guides are all ceramic type so I'm thinking it should be OK but wanted to ask about it. I like my older rods.

now there’s the perfect setup.. Try that NYY and you’ll be good to go.

Older guides? Braid has been around for over 30 years. It's not much of an issue. 10-20# Smackdown would work well with most spinning set ups.
