I have many more questions about the term "Angler" than I do sticks.  At least sticks makes sense...

an·gle2
/ˈaNGɡəl/
verb
  1. fish with rod and line.
"there are no big fish left to angle for"

noun
ARCHAIC
  1. a fishhook.
"you will be pleased too, if you find a Trout at one of our Angles"

While the word angle for hook is archaic, the verb to angle is still a word.

And the mechanic got mad when I called him a 'Tool'....I was just trying to be complimentary

Maybe using the descriptor 'wrench' instead of 'tool' will come off better next time ;~) . . . unless he actually is a tool.

The kids call me a caps lock every once in a while

Reminds me of my son's younger baseball years, any player who wore number 11 was referred to as "Sticks"

I can still here the coaches and dads,  "Here we go now sticks!"

I tried that once...just once.

About 10 years ago my wife and I were having a "discussion" and she called me a tool. Well I must have had a little too much to drink because I retaliated with calling her a 'wrench', except I wasn't pronouncing my R's to well by then.

As @Sam would say "And then the fight began."

You want trouble making sense out of a written tome? Try reading that book John posted, without the translation. It is in english. Old english. Very old english.

Not fir nuttin, but don’t yuse thinks yir askings lot from us sticksmen? Or are we’s hookers like @Michigander thinks we’s is? I cants memba?

I remember the characters from "Harry n Charlie" calling rods "bassin' sticks".

Then there is the nomer 'dipstick' that implies almost total uselessness.
