Hello,

Like almost everyone in a colder climate I am sick of winter. Decided to start prepping for the Spring. Last year I really expanded my fishing knowledge and techniques. This year I want to continue that and made it a point this to dive into jerkbaits and cranks a lot more. I am currently well covered on the jerkbait front.

Most of my fishing is more shallow water as I throw from a bank 99% of the time. What is your favorite Shallow Water Cranks to throw or ones to throw from the bank that can get deep quick?

This is what I have looked into some:

Brands? - 6th Sense, Megabass, Lucky Craft, Rapala, etc (very open to others)

Styles? - Shallow Mainly, like 1-3ft, 2-4ft, or 3-6ft

Colors? - Bluegill are big in Delaware where I am fishing, White and Chart Shad like as well

Thanks for the advice, also very open to used lures that are for sale. Can't beat something lightly used a little cheaper then brand new haha

Shallow Shad Rap

MB Flap Slap

Duo Kabuki CR 50 SSR

Lunkerhunt Impact Flat-one of the only inexpensive flat sided cranks that consistently produce for me, just change out the hooks.

Crankbait fishing is a huge part of my fishing. To start out I don’t think you need to start out jumping into it head over heels. To go out and buy a lot of crankbaits may be a mistake at first. Just get a few that generally will work on almost and body of water and develop a confidence in them. Buy ones that are to your depth of water. Does water clarity change where you fish? Most likely can and will.

There are so many manufacturers of them that your head can spin. And basically they are the same but we all have favorites and ones that we just fish harder and get good results from. I’m trying to say a Bandit is not much different than a Strike King, Ser. 3 vs. 200

A reaction bait is what it is. I don’t think a bass is putting a lot of thought process into it before striking it. At times a bass will take it the second it touches the water, takes it immediately after it passes cover or an object, or will follow it during a retrieve to hunt it down and take it. Most likely on a pause of speed or rise of the bait.

I guess I do fish various brands and have been doing it a long time but for one starting out I don’t believe you have to look much further than what Rapala puts out. (I do not work or have stock in Rapala) They do catch fish. They have hard baits in all of the categories to cover rattling to Shad bodies to jerkbaits and color patterns that have stood up for years.

I guess I’m trying to say keep it as simple as possible at first. You have your whole fishing life to make it harder on yourself. Great post and there is a ton of good info here.

Haha Yeah I agree. I planned on only getting a few to start out, the idea behind the thread was to get a little more information on which brands people preferred. Compare the like recommendations and get a handful that fit into my budget to start out.

The water level was a big one for me, like you said there are so many brands, and styles that cover various water depths. This thread has helped me a TON break it down to ones I want to consider. I am a spreadsheet nerd so basically took everything suggested. Now I can get a few that fit my waters best as suggested.

I appreciate the comment, even more great information that added that really is helpful!

non square bills this is historically in last 4 years has worked for me
4-6 foot of water I have had a lot of success with 200 size  bandits and bombers, size 5 and 6 Shad rap.

6-8ft strike kings kvd’s, strike king, strike king flat sides, and  lucky craft,

now I’m adding I guess more primium cranks in more natural colors. Now I’m still buying strike kings but, also buying  from 13, 6th sense,  mega bass, berkly cutters.  Most of which, I havnt used yet or very little.
