Finally got on the lake today, sort of...

Featured Replies

I play hockey every week, from July until the end of March when the ice comes out at the local arena. Haven’t touched my skates since exactly a year ago, when COVID shut down all hockey rinks around here. Well, today the lake behind our house was a perfect, giant natural rink. The kid and I spent a couple hours this afternoon with a couple pucks, and all the ice we could ever skate on. Boy, it sure was nice to get out for a skate again, although I did have the endurance of an 80 year old woman.
According to the  forecast, that’ll be the only chance we likely get to have a skate, but that’s fine by me cause the boat is coming down from storage to my garage next weekend to start prepping for open water.

WHAT THE PUCK! ?

I can't tell you how much I miss playing hockey.

I've also never got the chance to skate with my son. Plenty of baseball, never hockey with him. Enjoy those times with him, it goes by fast. :ok-wink:

I remember one time when I was about 10 the lake my sister lived on was smooth as glass due to a warm rain followed by a flash freeze. It was absolutely awesome having an entire 300 acre lake to skate on and work on keeping my head up with the puck which was my absolute downfall through my years of playing hockey.

I usually play in an indoor recreational weekly men’s league for 10 weeks from March - May but I’ve decided that being around others breathing heavily during a viral pandemic that spreads through respiration is not a risk I’m willing to take. Although they do require masks, it’s extremely difficult to keep them on properly throughout the course of the game, not to mention how hard it is to breathe. I hope to return to play next spring.
