Baitcast reel for crankbait rod

Featured Replies

I'm ordering a Dobyns Fury FR 705CB crankbait rod that's Med/Heavy, moderate fast for square bill crankbaits and lipless crankbaits from 3/8-1/2oz today.  What's a good baitcast reel for the crankbaits I'm planning to use on it?  Looking to spend around $250 or less.

I got a Daiwa Tatula SV TW [TTUSV103HS] in 7.1:1 for the Fury 705CB I recently purchased. Spooled with Sunline Sniper 14#, I've been exceptionally pleased, especially considering the price of the rod. Casts the lure weights you're considering extremely well.

I've got that rod and for cranks I like a 6 speed

Bottom of the heap for decent reels: all of these are aluminum framed.

Pflueger Supreme 6.4 (since it's out of production now, can find good deals)

Diawa Fuego CT 6.3 (I have this one...works great for cranks)

Shimano SLX 6.3

Upper end:

Pflueger Patriarch XT 6.4 (another OOP reel than you can find for a deal)

Diawa Tatula Elite 6.3

Shimano Curado 150 DC 6.2

There's more out there from other manufacturers - and several more from the thee manufacturers above inbetween the models I've listed.

I started using my Curado dcs 7.4:1 and am loving them.

Tatula Elite in the 6.# range.
