First time using KVD line and lure after reading some good things about it here on the forum. I re-spooled with some 15lb P-Line Tactical on a bait cast reel and gave a couple sprays every so often while spooling. A couple more covering the whole spool of line once it was full. Whats the best approach for maintaining the new line? A couple strays here and there throughout the season? The night before going out fishing? Or is that overkill? I was using a different line "conditioner" the night before each outing and I swear it was drying out my line. Making it feel more stiff and almost brittle. I didn't have any line break offs and it still seemed to cast normal it just made me uneasy. I don't have much experience with line conditioner and want to make sure I don't screw something up and ruin my new line.

This is what I do with KVD - every time.

 

I've not noticed anything other than more manageable line with less memory.

Just give it a squirt or two the night before you go. That's all I ever need to do.

Yep- night before will do the trick.  I like it for braid, too. 

Like everyone else has said a couple sprays the night before. 

I have used "Reel Magic" for years on line, worm gear, pawl and general lubrication. Slightly cheaper then KVD $8.00 a can, from Amazon. Instant results that you can see and feel. 

Spray the heck out of the full spool of line you bought.  The stuff is amazing.

Really? I've always seen and heard of people not using it on braid.

 

But back to the OP question, like others have said, I spray it on the night before.

What does it do for braid? Ive never heard of anyone treating braided line

It does seem to make braid a little softer.

I have tried reel magic and it seems the KVD line conditioner works better on fluro than reel magic. Side by side it seems the line was still very stiff and coiled with the reel magic. The KVD line was more supple.

Has anyone else noticed this?

What convinced me that the stuff helps has nothing to do with fishing. My window blind cords would tend to bind up so I tried L&L on them. They stay slick for a long time. I use all braid on my reels and do notice some benefit. I would suppose that it diminishes during the course of several hours use.

I saw in a video. A pro using fabric softener on braid. I gotta tell you it works great. My line doesn't did in (as much) and the braid definitely feels smoother!

Exactly what I noticed using reel magic too.

This is the worst thing for a reel lubricant wise. The petroleum distillates that make it sprayable dissolve grease and oils.
