Did the pandemic create a shortage?

Featured Replies

This is the second year of the shortages. If you're just now noticing, then I guess I would be thankful that it hasn't affected you much until now.

Tariffs, trade wars, the pandemic, shift in work force routines, closure of food services...so many factors. This will be a terrific topic for business schools to lecture upon for many years. And the mental health impact may never really be fully understood for generations.

The Gov doling out unemployment to everyone that applies is what has caused a shortage of people at work.

Not so much where I work and around us.  We interview about 25-50 people a week that want a job but they suck, to be polite.  Where my daughter works they just hired 500+ people at $16.75 hour, putting together medical kits.

On another note.....My niece used her government money to pay rent as her place of employment went under and she can't get work in her industry at this time.  Some of my coworkers have donated their money to others around them in need or to their families.   So from my perspective, I see that money being either spent or allocated. I have been donating mine to this Bait Monkey guy.  If you see him, tell him I'll be a little short this week. ?

Yeah I’ve heard lumber has gotten bad. I really need my deck stairs rebuilt too soon. ?

Pork ribs are twice the cost they were last year at Costco too.....$45 for 3 racks. Luckily prime beef tenderloin is still around $22lb.

I'm not referring to stimulus checks. I'm referring to federal unemployment assistance.

And it is 100% an issue in my area. I manage a manufacturing facility, and it's nearly impossible to find employees. Staffing services around here have 3-4 times the amount of open positions as they have candidates. Catfish and chicken plants in this area are operating at half capacities in some cases due to lack of work force.

Nearly blind approval of unemployment applications and added federal assistance has absolutely crippled the work force in many parts of the country.
