What wacky rig hook does everyone use that’s not a circle hook?

Featured Replies

Are the Owner hooks circle hooks and what are wacky hooks that aren’t circle hooks

I'm going to guess you are very young.  You are waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay overthinking this.  Buy some of those Owner hooks and put a worm on there.  Cast it out and let it flutter down on semi-slack line.  Called "dead sticking".  When you feel something or see the line do something odd, reel the slack and give it a tug.  You don't have to yank it, just give a nice smooth sweep.  Reel in fish.  I don't care what anyone says or what hooks are out there, the wacky is not a weedless rig.  If you want weedless you need to T-rig on a 3/0 Gamakatsu EWG hook.

Owner SSW and Gammi Octopus are not circle hooks. Either will work ok for wacky rigging, but this is what you want. Set the hook, don't set the hook, as long as you keep the rod bent once its bent it's a done deal. If you are going to set it, a light sweep is all you need.

Yes, reel down most of the slack out and sweep, firm, but not exaggerated, like you see in the videos. Wacky rigging has an exposed hook, and it's usually not at a great distance, so no need to be heavy handed. Once you do, keep even tension on the fish with a good bend on the rod as you work it to you. You don't want the rod flailing around, and straightening out. I see this from a lot of newbs, and it's what causes most fish to get off.

I like the Berkley Fusion 19's.  Nice gap and seem to be plenty sharp.

I use treble hook :)

But Ike swearing by VMC Neko hook.

I use a Tiemco fly hook, but regular fish in heavy cover with a MH rod.  Not suitable for light line/rod combinations.

I switched from the owner wacky hooks to vmc and trokar neko hooks. I think hookup percentage is much higher with neko hooks.  just reel until you feel pressure and turn into them.  no need for a strong hook set

the vmc neko and weedless neko are great wacky rig hooks.you cant set them wrong.you can swing for the fences.( incorrect and unneccesary) or lift and sweep. ( correct and all thats needed) either way will work.
