I have been playing with different hooks and sizes on a bladed jig that I build. I have a 3/8 oz head that I have poured hooks in sizes 3/0 and 4/0 in styles that are used for spinnerbaits and straight shank worm hooks. The bait seems to attract fish no matter which hook is used however, I feel that the 3/0 has more  fish that do not make it into the boat. I have been thinking about trying a 5/0 but I will have to do some grinding on the mold to get it to fit. Any thoughts ?

I like the 4/0 overall but will use the 3/0 on 1/4oz baits.

Also, does bending the blade make a huge difference ? I bent one today to try when I get out next week.

Mine I make by punching open the hook eye.  Gamakatsu 345 4/0 hook works best and it fits perfect in the sparkie mold. 

 

As for the blades I  only have bent ones so I don't know? Figured there's a reason all the best factory chatterbaits have a bend in them.

I don't make my own so I don't know how much of a hassle this is to accommodate, but when buying/fishing a bladed jig I prefer a 5/0 in 3/8oz and up.

do you feel that you get better hook up, loose less fish and what rod  and line do you use with that big of a hook?  Sometimes I think there is more to fishing a bait than just tying one on.

I use 5/0 and 6/0 on 3/8oz. 

I like smaller sizes..3/0. I find the bigger ones unnecessary and seem like overkill. I hooked a bass in the eye with a 3/8 jackhammer and still feel terrible.

I use the Troker swim jig mold.  I use a 4/0 hook.
