What hooks are you guys using for a 5” senko? I was using the standard gamakatsu ewg but have had issues with the bait sliding down the hook after a few bites or

one fish

I’ve used a variety, including EWG.  Mostly, I use a straight shank bait keeper with a deep throat so there’s plenty of room for the Senko. 

4/0 Skip Gap for all stick type baits.

4/0 EWG Gamakatsu hook, just like you’re using. I also use an Eagle Claw 4/0 Jason Christie Heavy Wire EWG hook if I can’t find the Gamakatsu ones

Try owner twist locks in a 3/0 or gamakatsu octopus in 1/0 for wacky rigging I like both.

Gamakatsu 3/0 EWG for weightless TR and 1/0 circle octopus for WR. 

I have been reaching for round bends and Shaunessey (sp) more than WG's lately

I use the vmc wide gaps size 3/0 for 5” senko. They run a tad bigger than a gamakatsu.The bend below the eye is a bit more turned up than a standard gamakatsu eWG which helps prevent the senko from sliding down

 

4/0 Gamakatsu Screw Lock Superline

The hooks pictured below will extend the life of your 5" GY senkos quite a bit. The Huntington Field&Stream usually has them in stock, but first do an "owner" keyword search on the DSG website, set Huntington as your store, then check stock first before you go, or order online for pickup.

 

If you're going through alot of plastics, this location also stocks Men It on the end cap near the spooling station. It's also on a card tree across from the tackle bags. When a senko does rip you can repair them endlessly with this stuff. When they do, chuck them in your bag, let them dry out, then do the repair at home.
