Hi all,

 

Does anyone have a brand/line of bass fishing rods they like that are also compatible with saltwater? I typically use Dobyns (Fury series), iROD (Genesis II), and St. Croix (Premier & Triumph) for my freshwater gear. I plan on fishing a tidal system that has some salt, and I don't want to chance the salt eating at the guides!

As long as the power, action and length are adequate, there is no reason a bass rod won't work  well in the salt. A quick rinse with a garden hose at the end of the day is probably a good idea, though I seldom bother. 

Yeah as stated above normal bass rods should hold up fine. If you want saltwater specific though, Star rods stellar series is good as is Tica's dolphin series.

There's nothing different about the construction. Reels are different story. Just make sure you match the gear with the species you're chasing. 

The iR Genesis and the Premiers/Triumphs hold up to salt pretty well.  Purpose built saltwater rods generally use components (guides, hoods etc) that are more resistant to corrosion and there is more epoxy around the guides and wraps to keep the feet from corroding.   

Wipe the guides down with a wet paper towel after your done fishing and or gently rinse them with cool freshwater.

Spray the guides and reel seat & lock ring after taking off the reel with WD-40 after rinsing with fresh water.

I fish for every fish the same as LMB. Right now, I am using the Kistler KLX heavy mod (NFC blank) for inshore fishing. It would be perfect with a Foregrip on it and conventional guides. The new version now has conventional guides, so it’s going to be better than mine. You will be surprised how you do in saltwater fishing the same way you fish for LMB. And @WRB is right on, if after giving nonsaltwater gear a good rinse with your hose sprayer, spray the guides with WD40.  I am out of WD40 because I spray my guides with it all the time.

I’m confused, because if it can work either way, I might be holding my rod wrong 

 

Looks fine, maybe hold it a little bit lower.

Well I was at a spot last weekend. And the only guy to catch anything was about 70 years old and holding his spinning reel upside down. Dogfish.
