Yup, I'm talking about the Reaper - another "old school lure" that works extremely well under certain conditions, yet you don't hear anyone talking about it these days. I tell you all you need to know in this video.

I'm getting a lot of feedback along the lines of, "Why did you do that?! You told everyone about my secret lure!!"

I had never heard of these. Now for my stupid question. As thin as this bait appears to be why wouldn't an offset shank round hook be a better choice than an EWG hook?

I have a buddy that fishing nothing but these old reapers and the classic mister twister grubs.  From ice thaw thru the winter.  I have never been with him and seen him go home skunked.

Owner #5133 size 2/0 for 3” reapers is ideal.

The Slip Shot rig in lieu of the mojo rig will improve strike detection imo.

Hand poured Iovino reapers are ideal. The trick is hook the reaper flat Side up round side down. This allows the reaper to flutter on the fall.

I use 5 lb Maxima UG Copolymer line, 1/8 oz Pro-jo black weight, you can peg the 8mm glass bead for a stopper.

Use the thin part of the peg through the hook eye to peg the reaper to the hook (cut off about 1/8” longe after inserting through the hook eye to hold the soft plastic.

My son loved to Slip Shot reapers with phenomenal success while I jig fished.

26 lb Chanel Cat, dozens of 7 lb to 8 lb bass, PB 13.2 lbs on a copper & coal #18 reaper.

A bait I've never been able to have much success with but always seemed like it should work.

Another old bait I never see used anymore is a Mann's Stingray grub. Use to wear some bass out on those things.
