Do you make your own blades?

No I buy them from the same manufacturers as Barlow's. JannsNetcraft. Lurepartsonline.

I'm not saying that big blades always equal bigger fish, but sometimes they do. This bait is a 3/4oz head, 6/0 hook, #6 and #7 or #8 hammered, copper Colorado blades. Just what the big girls want arou

  • I think they do at times . Other times they discourage bigger fish . Like every other aspect in this sport , there are no rules .

  • BIG BAITS=BIG FISH is a myth. Putting the right bait where the big girls hang out will get you more big fish than throwing big bait where they don't.  You may catch fewer small fish as they might get

I don't have much time to post right now but don't forget about Oklahoma blades.  Terminator used to have these available for their T1 spinnerbaits.  I caught many bass using the Oklahoma blades.

@LrgmouthShad - Great topic and obviously everyone has their own opinions and experiences. This year I was fortunate to be back home in RI from 1st week of June through now. I changed from large blades, large colorados, loud and vibrating everything etc. down in the tidal rivers near DC/VA/MD to small - thin - double willow & natural colors. I caught over 200 quality bass this year ranging 1 to 6lbs. Been an awesome year. My only observation is - slow retrieve with change of presentation every once in a while, using that wind, and lower light levels. Hope this helps. Best luck to you out there!

This thread is evil, as I know have a roughly 75 buck order of just different blades from barlows ready to order sometime this month.

Let me know which ones you want to try and I can send you some. I have bought about 5k blades in the past 6 months so I have a few spares.

P.S did a little more digging through my blade box.... the trickster blades are almost completely flat. When I was using the trickster spinnerbait in a crystal clear lake one time, I do recall seeing that the blades spun with a noticeably wide arc.

PS where can I find these “slow” or very flat blades? Very intriguing considering that the first couple of seconds are critical to how I fish spinnerbaits

Edit: that one Stanley vibrawedge I got looks like it could be considered to have “slow” willows. Hmmmm

ebay unless you want a lot of them? I have size 3.5 and 4 nickel willows if you want a couple to try out. As for Stanley from what I remember the blade has a tapered thickness. Not sure about the cup though? Hildabrant blades are thicker as well and I am not sure what this is supposed to accomplish? Maybe greater weight to increase drag for a tighter turn radius? Don't know I just know their plating quality has gone down hill in the last couple of years.

You ever made a short arm spinner bait? Looking at the unpainted frames that look like the war eagle head and was thinking of making a short arm spinner or two out of them.
