Tight or wide wobble?

Featured Replies

I just don't know which one i should use for clear a murky water.   Would they both work good in both colors of water?

Cold water: tight wobble

Warm water: wide wobble

Murky water: noise

Clear water: silent, natural colors

T-rig stated the rule-of-thumb for using tight and wide-wobbling crankbaits which I generally will follow when I initially tie on one of these lures.  However, I will change from the rule-of-thumb if the bass tell me otherwise.  I've caught a lot of bass on tight wobbling cranks in the summer.

Yep, I know these are the guidelines, but Rat-L-Trap type lures work year around! :o

Clear i would go with a wider wobble because its easier seen

for Murky i would go with a tight wobble because they usually wobble faster and make more of a disturbance

Shad Raps kill year 'round as well.  Tight and light.

I agree with senile1, Shad Raps work anytime.

speaking of wobble the live magic shad works year around  ;D roadwarriors right about those rat l traps however. and the red eye shad is great also. im looking for some wide wobble cranks what should i get for the tennessee river/ pickwick lake or wilson dam?

I've caught more fish than I can count on a Wiggle Wart in clear, cold water - - - so I'm not sure how much I would follow rules of thumb - only experimentation on the water seems to sort that out.

Sometimes it doesn't even matter what you're throwing - - as long as you present it correctly and put it in front of fish.

Amen! I don't follow the rules of thumb! :o

kb here    i dont agree with  the  warm water or cold water.   i use two different

crankbaits on my lake   and  one day they like a big-o's  tight wiggle   the very next day same place same temp they want a bandit 100 that has a wide wobble

this may sound stupid  and ia'm not a tourney fisherman  on the two lakes  i have a couple spots i go to first so the fish will tell me what they are doing

this is small mouth fishing   some times they want current  the next time calm water some times tight to wood. and other times just roaming.  and it hold up most of the time   kb

Start by using the guidelines T-Rig posted but like others have said don't be afraid to go against the rules. I have caught fish on a LC RC 1.5 in water temps from 43-85 degrees in both clear and muddy water.

Amen! I have caught tons of bass on the 1.5 in late winter/early spring. However, when the water is muddy I prefer tight wobbling cranks.
