I'm trying to understand diameters on line and how some sizes up or down really doesn't move to much to justify going down in lb test.

Here are two examples I found from what I understand is it, on both examples one jumps up 10 (fluorocarbon) mono (20)

 

so question is do you think it makes a difference going from 10-12 with this data if not I’m curious on why 10 sales

I think it's because if we can settle anything fishing related with data, or science ...we wouldn't get any more threads like the recent fluoro/mono fight

They both "move" or "jump" 1/1000th of an inch. You may be thrown by the way the bottom number is displayed, or the fact that the upper number has one more significant digit, or public education...

that must be it! A+ comment 

.1 = one 10th

.01 = one 100th

.001 = one 1,000th

.0001 = one 10,000th

It’s very difficult to measure accurately round line in one 10,000th less the line perfectly round. Ignore the 10,000th figure or round it off.

Not all FC's and mono's of the same pound test have the same diameters. Close, but not always the same. Most FC's are a little smaller in diameter than mono's.

I agree with Gone.  I always measure line and use the thinnest for the lb test, although the lb test may not always be accurate.

For the original question, seems like 10-lb fluorcarbon or even smaller should be your go-to for finesse worms. 

Both smaller diameter and denser fluorocarbon is going to sink quicker.

More proof that mm is a smarter measurement for line diameter than inches. 

You need two significant digits to compare diameter.  Why have your two significant digits behind extra decimal places. 

 

Even the smartest, the Japanese approach of using Gou (PE#), which is a traditional silk threat gauge.  I fish braided line up to PE#1.5, buy leader #2, #3 and #4, and spool UL spinning reels with #1.5 Toray Exthread (fluoro).  The Japanese have their spools coded to quickly match lines.
