Swimbait help needed

Featured Replies

I have the equipment dialed and have the baits but exactly how do I fish the bigger glides toss near the area now do I let it sink and keep it in the zone, Or do I keep it near the top?

how about baits like bbz slow sink? Same thing I’m assuming?

to clear up my post I’ve watched tacticalbassin videos etc and understand the movements of the baits but not sure exactly how close depth wise do I fish it next to a target depth wise.

The fish will tell you where the bait needs to be. Sometimes they'll rocket out of deep water and smash your bait, sometimes they'll slowly follow. Other times you''ll need to get it down and leave it right in front of them. There are no hard-fast rules.

Here's an example: One day I was fishing a small glide. Following each cast I was working it slowly, twitching it, making it stop and turn, a nice ballet. After a some time where I tried several versions of this finess-ee type of retrieve I got frustrated. I knew the fish were there, but I couldn't get things going. Finally, I whipped the bait out and angrily burned it in as fast as I could reel, and bam. I knocked off several more from that general area over the next half hour. This was the last thing I'd expected, but it taught me something. Mix things up until something happens. That's my best advice.

When you are a shore angler casting out into the water column it’s difficult to know what is under the water unless you are familiar with the lakes structure/ underwater cover.

Letting any treble hook lure sink into snags is a major problem retrieving the lure.

Ideally you want the lure in front of the bass or above it in lieu of below it. Bass will move about 20’ to strike a lure rarely follow it down more then a few feet deeper.

Most slow sink glides/swimbaits rate of fall is about 10’-12’ a minute.

I have a boat so that solves that good to know about the slow sinks sink rate. So pretty much graph then see how they are relating to the bottom and guess sink rate and swim it slightly above them?

Ummm, Maybe find something (gravel or sand bottom) with a known depth 10 -12' or so.  Make sure it is snag free.  Time how long it takes to get to the bottom.  Say it takes 30 seconds to hit the bottom in 10' FOW.  So 5'  = 15 seconds. 7.5 sec's 2.5' etc. It will vary some with line size diameter and type.  So if your fishing in 12' FOW weeds are growing to 6'. 5' would probably be a good depth to retrieve your bait.

I'd also invest in a lure retriever.

What kind of glide you using will dictate the how. First of all you need a search glide and see if you have followers and also you have glides you fish them like jerk bait. And you have the glides that you retrieve slow and twice at the points that you found with search glide. So thats a long story, Please be spisific about your gear and glide/glides your going to fish and body of water so others will able to help you better.
