PaulVE64 Posted May 2, 2022 Author Posted May 2, 2022 Since Trout Opener I've consistently caught river walleye up to 20" and +2# creek smallies But no trout on some of my best trout patterns. Quote

Lucky you! Bass and walleye are way cooler than trout anyhow Quote
PaulVE64 Posted May 4, 2022 Author Posted May 4, 2022 My brother loves a trout slam. He's d**n good at it too out on the Bow River. So i need to be atleast respectable or he'll be chirp me next time we fish together Quote
PaulVE64 Posted May 14, 2022 Author Posted May 14, 2022 One warm day turned into a week of 80 f and blazing sun. The water on the creek I'm fishing is low and choking with carp in spawn. I saw 3 larger female smallies on beds. Carp But, in about 3 ft of water i saw maybe 12 to 15 smallies run upstream at tremendous pace. Theh shot threw like a biker gang. Backdrop is its friday the 13th, full moon and the Port Dover Run is today. Quote
PaulVE64 Posted June 15, 2022 Author Posted June 15, 2022 Time for an official creek fishing update. In a 30 ft stretch of rocky shore dropoff to 7 ft depth on a city creek i caught a #2.68 smallie and lost 2 bigger ones on jumps. d**n. I like this 6' mlf HMG but the tip is slower and i ****** it up. I also landed a 27" pike there too. Im seriously thinking of a short StC LTB (spinning) 1 Quote
PaulVE64 Posted August 24, 2022 Author Posted August 24, 2022 (edited) Another update since I had so much fun today. Very successful day on a new stretch of river for me. Had only been over it once before in a canoe. Saw another large bald eagle, many hawks and herons. And got a job offer too! Edit - i was throwing a monstrously large spook. PaulVE64 Posted September 6, 2022 Author Posted September 6, 2022 So today I ran over a 1/4 mile stretch of my river that consistently provides 3 and 4 lb smallies which are a blast! Though there is one shelf that aught to be stacked up but is consistently dry for me until today. This was my spot on the spot today. It feels great to catch a bass right where he should be on a handtied jig of mine own pattern. Quote
Solution PaulVE64 Posted November 6, 2022 Author Solution Posted November 6, 2022 Final thoughts for the season (since I typically lose the smallies in early November) I learned the importance of patience. The power of the dead drift. And the rarity of a 4# river smallie 2 Quote
PaulVE64 Posted December 1, 2022 Author Posted December 1, 2022 Final note for the season, water temps are now hovering in the mid 30s and I'm thinking about how lucky we are to enjoy fishing. I suppose i could have taken up another hobby like frisbee golf or crack. Have a great winter dreaming about the next warm day 1 1 Quote
