Shimano Curado Glass Cranking Rod

Featured Replies

Is anyone using one of the newer split grip Curado Glass rods? I’m looking for a crank rod to pair with my new Curado MGL 150, and the 7’ Medium Curado glass is one option I’m considering.

Good looking rods, I just can’t find much chatter about them.

I was super interested in picking one up, I got to the store and was playing with them. I love how they feel, nice and soft! Didn't pull the trigger yet, wait8ng till weather warms up

Unfortunately no where around here to handle one. Which lengths did you look at?

Tackle Warehouse has the 7’ listed as 1/4-3/4oz and I thought that was perfect for what I needed…… But just saw that the Shimano site has it listed 1/4-1/2oz. I throw some KVD 2.5 squares (5/8oz) so afraid the 7’ may be too light.

So now I’m looking at the 7’2”, but it may be a bit much for DT4s (which I also throw a good bit).  Decisions decisions ?

I want to feel in my hands the Falcon Bucoo, stC Mojo glass crank and an Abu G glass winch rod before i buy.

Ive passed on Dobyns rods though that may be a mistake.

Anyone else know of a 6.5' to 7' medium with a moderate soft tip. I want to feel the lures thump  and bump off the occasional boulder.

I actually just ordered the ml for wiggle warts. Should get it this coming week. I’ll try to report back.

Where did you order from? Find a good price on them?

I have a spinning rod made by Powell for cranks. It’s a medium power, moderate fast action. I can sling small #4 shad raps up to larger lures. The rod keeps fish pinned great. It’s a glass composite rod and really light.

I'd go by what shimanos site in regards to lure rating

For sure.
The versatility just shrinks a tad with their ratings, so not sure which to go with yet.

It seems like a great rod for squarebills and lighter lipless cranks. Should handle them just fine.

The 7’ Medium?
I just want to be able to tie on a KVD 2.5 or 3XD too.  I know a rod that handle those well and throw a DT4 well is asking a lot though.

I just got the medium light and the lure ratings everywhere are wrong. Even on Shimano's site. The rod itself says 3/16 to 1/2 oz. Shimano's site says 3/16-3/8. I would ask the shop to grab a rod and read the rating to you if your worried about that. Either way this rod was too much of a wet noodle for me, I'm moving up to the medium power just to get a little bit more backbone but I'll be using it for wiggle warts which are still well within the m rating.

I have one.  Shimano sent me one for a Shimano Crucial I had, that had the lifetime warranty.  I  broke it on a fish.  I had it for years, no issues and then crack.  As far as the Curado rod goes, its just ok.  I am not thrilled with it.  It's not as good as the old Crucial and the St. Croix Legend Glass I have is far superior in every way.  Can you catch fish on the Curado? Of course but this rod is nothing out of the ordinary.

For $100+ more than the Curado, I'd expect it to be.

Is the Mojo glass still the same blank as Legend?

Just got the medium. Btw it is in fact rated 1/4-3/4 oz so you should be good to go. I will report back after I fish it.

Any more thoughts on the rod yet?

The tiny Mojo Bass handles are just too odd for me. I have big hands, and when I'm holding a short gripped St. Croix, most of my casting hand is behind the grip on the blank.
