Battery for Live scope ?

Featured Replies

I am about to add LS and appreciate your thoughts

It seems that people are using a separate battery for black box for LS.
Why do you need a separate battery?
Can't you just use starting battery, or tm battery?
That's what I have done with previous electronics,

You can use what ever works for you.  Hooking to the trolling motor batteries can cause a lot of interference.  Many are finding out that the cranking battery can not handle all of today’s electronics and still start the engine.  They opt for a “house” battery to run their electronics.  I had to do that several years ago because my Optimax took more ccas than my cranker could provide if I weren’t moving often.

Thanks,  I think I will start using existing battery and if necessary add an additional one.

My fishing is pretty much a half day at a time, I am older and cant handle the daylight till dark thing anymore. So I think current setup will work.

What @Jig Man said. Which is why I switched out to Lithium with 125ah so after fishing all day running electronics I don’t have to worry about motor starting or low voltage for the electronics.

Most bass pros today use a house battery to run their highend sonar units to avoid voltage drop that impacts the sonar performance.

I run two 27 series cranking due to electronics. I have a dedicated perko  switch for the buss that my electronics hook into that is connected with 8 guage wire to avoid any power loss issues. So my main power and electronics aren't tied together and have the cranking power to turn over the 250 on the back after fishing all day and running 4 units if I forget to put the 12 in the console on stby.

I am running a 31 series for my starter and only have the live scope  running off of my starter. Will my 31 series handle that ?

All depends on the reserve capacity. Drain it too much and it won't start the motor.

My reserve capacity is 205?

Well that converts to about 85AH - I'd leave about 1/2 of that at minimum to have enough to start the motor.

Livescope pulls about 3amps - so 42/3 is 14 hours.

You should be good

Note; Formula to convert Reserve to AH is: Reserve (in minutes)*60*25/3600

Thanks , I didn’t want to have to buy another battery!?
