Midwest finesse mold...

Getting kinda tired of the price of Ned heads so I thought about buying a mold...just curious for those using this mold what's your favorite hook?

For the regular one I like a 1/0 Gammy.  However, I recently bought the new mold that fits the Victory ewg hook and rigs up like a Trig.  I am really liking it because it comes through all the rocks and limbs here on Table Rock.

No doubt the owner 5313. A bit pricey but you will not be disappointed!

I know the owner is quality but I'd like a little cheaper option if possible.

I like the eagle claw Lil nasty, pretty easy to find for 10 cents and less per hook. I have never had an issue with them, but they aren't as stout as the Owner.

I have a buddy who sets the hook way too hard and horses fish-he straightened out a few of the Eagle Claws. If that's how you fish save up for the Owners.

I think those are the hooks in the eagle claw Ned heads...if so I caught  several nice fish on them including a 5lb largemouth without an issue.

Do you know what size fits in the do-it mold?

I use 2, 1, 1/0

The Eagle Claw 500BP (Lil Nasty) works well, so does the Mustad 32500 skipjack and the Victory 11149.  All of those are sickle hooks, the Mustad has a little heavier wire than the Eagle Claw or Victory and when using smaller light wire hooks you don't need to do a big hook set, the sharp hooks penetrate with just some pressure. If you want a round bend you can use an Eagle Claw 570BP, Mustad 32746, the VMC 9147, or most other 90 degree hooks.

I use the #1 Lil' Nasty hook in mine. I horsed a 20+lb flathead into the boat in ~5 minutes on one without breaking or straightening it, they're plenty stout for what your intended purpose is provided you're using the appropriate equipment.
