Catfish rods for bass fishing?

Featured Replies

I want a bass rod (I have a trout rod, but lure weight is low) I found that Bass Pro makes a "King Kat" rod for $30. I dont want to the spend $100-$200 that most bass rods are, so I think its a good deal. I went through the options and made it to be a 7', medium heavy, fast action rod, which through my research, is good for bass. I was wondering if it would be good for bass. I was also wondering also if anyone knew a similarly priced rod (sub $50) that would be better.

Berkeley and Daiwa make some sub $50 rods that would serve you better. Take a look at the cherrywood or aird x and start looking at others that may be in the same range.

I'll double-down on the Aird-X. Still have two in my arsenal...they fish way above their price-point.

No, a cat MH is much heavier than a bass MH, and it will be a lower modulus or composite with a slower action, larger diameter blank. The emphasis is on flinging bait and or fighting fish. Get yourself a Daiwa Aird-X, around $50, less if you can wait for a sale.

What kinda lures can you cast with the 3/4 oz max of the cherrywood

Cherrywood sucks. Get the Aird-X.

My MH Mad Katz rod is rated up to 10oz. It also weighs more than most of my bass rod and reel combos combined in just the rod.

That Aird X is a great rod for the money.

Daiwa Arid X is a great little rod!!!!

You'll wear yourself out trying to bass fish with a catfish rod. They're made for making a cast, then sit and wait. Far too heavy for casting bass lures
