Rod recommendations small swimbait

Featured Replies

Hello all,

any recommendations for a spinning rod for throwing small swim baits? I will mainly be using Keitech 2.8 and 3 inch swimabaits along with 3 inch grubs. Mainly throwing them on 1/8 oz and 3/16 oz heads. Thanks in advance.

Give us a pricing point for specific suggestions.

StC Avid series will have something.

I can’t recommend a specific spinning rod at that price point but I would look for a Medium power Fast action rod for small swimbaits with 1/8 or 3/16 heads. For length make it as long as you are comfortable casting/handling.

My favorite rod for small swimbaits is a medium light power, fast action. Around 8lb line. It'll cast a mile on a lighter rod and I feel like the action is a bit better too. You get the benefit that it's always more fun to fight them on a lighter rod, too.

My light rods are all BPS Ultralight series (which is a lot of rod for very little money), but my favorite line of spinning rods are the St. Croix Premier series. Can't go wrong either way.

I like the Intenza Series from Shimano.  Very solid and sensitive.  I like the seven footer.

I use the Tatula 6’8 Med with a 3000 Tatula LT Reel  for the small Keitechs

Honestly, I throw 3.3 to 4.3 Keitechs on either a 2/0 to 3/0 Twistlock Light or an 1/8oz ball head and these are thrown on either of my 7' mxf spinning rods, 15 or 20 braid to 10 or 12 fluoro. They do the job very well.

Light-medium light, diawa shimano dobyns st croix rods are all good, buy whatever is on sale or cosmetically most appealing to you
