  • It’s even more boring when you do it like me and don’t get any bites. My mom watched Oprah everyday after school when I was a kid so I’m used to being bored though……..

  • Abolutely not. They'd probably allow that for Brady though.

I've been watching some coverage this morning.  Some guys are catching fish on a chatterbait or crankbait.  So at least I shouldn't HAVE to try and finesse them the whole time tomorrow.  I'll keep the ned, tube, and drop shot tied and ready though.

The guys staring at their screens with a drop shot are lame.  Talk about a boring way to fish.

Wondering if Wheeler will go back to back AOY this year. I would say there is a 95% probability of "Yes".

Alton Jones Sr is doing very well. The problem is too many times those winners go automatically to the championship and end up at the bottom....unless your Wheeler of course. It will be interesting to see!

I see a lot of these anglers drop shottin with a wacky rig. I have never done that before. It is obviously working, but I never thought of doing it.

That is why I love watching these events!

It happens to Wheeler, too, and he and I discussed it earlier this year. I’d also say probability of btb AOY titles at this point is closer to 99.9 percent, even if he doesn’t catch a single bass on the second day tomorrow. He carried in a 65 point lead with only a possible 80 points available, and is sitting with 58 pounds after the first day (3rd). He’d have to drop to the bottom 6 or 7 in that group, and Jordan would then still have to win the event in order to overtake him. Numerically it’s possible, but practically…

They actually said earlier in the broadcast that the only one to do it this year was Ott Defoe. I think it was Lake Fork, or whichever tourny he won. Other than that the group winner has not went on and won the tournament.

I haven't been watching enough to notice this, can you give more details? Are they putting a wacky rig senko on the drop shot, or just a wacky rig 4inch finesse straight tail robo worm? Which guys have been pushing the wacky dropshot the most?

I have seen quite a few of them using this technique. It essentially looks to me like a stick bait or trick worm wacky rigged on a drop shot hook. So instead of nose hooking the worm, or t-rigging the worm on the drop shot hook, they are wacky rigging it.

Wheeler, DC, and MDJ were all doing it. I also believe Alton Jones JR is also doing it.

Nothing makes me happier than seeing KVD leading Wheeler with reaction fish... then again, Wheeler is probably scouting more than fishing. But still good to know some crankbaits are getting it done over the neck-kinking dropshotting.

Lol - yeah, Wheeler laid off them today. So did Connell from the looks of it. Wheeler did do a lot of his damage at Cayuga cranking when a lot of guys were finesse fishing, so it all comes full circle ?

I was out there today and it was a complete bust. The wind was forecasted at 3 mph from the east and when we pulled up to the access on the east side, there were 2 foot rollers coming in from the west. What the f. So we launch and try to fish in that chop for four freaking hours. Standing on the bow mount, talon not grabbing, fighting that wind was miserable. We caught two 13 inch smallmouth the entire time. I’ve been to that lake three times this season and the wind failed to cooperate every time. 2022 is the great failure of Mille Lacs for this guy.

Its really the only place reasonably close to my house for smallmouth too, other than a river.

Getting a bit windy this morning!

It will be interesting to see how this effects the weights at the end of the day.

So apparently over on the *** forums, there is a 20 page thread about MLF pro breaking MN law during this tournament.

Essentially, the MN law says you can only have 1 line, 1 hook in the water at a time. MLF allows anglers to use two lines in once. Randy Howell had a double fluke rig, Wheeler and Alton JR used two lines at a time during the event.

The guys over there are going back and forth about should MLF DQ these anglers for breaking the MN law. Also, some of the guys there contacted MN DNR, and it seems like the are investigating the issue!

Wow, sounds like a lot of drama!!

Would have been nice if MLF told the guys 'hey don't use our two pole setup' on this lake due to local laws!

More side notes: Wheeler just got AOY.

Another side note: Wind is pretty wild today. Not easy. Glad Elam is getting em on the crank! Wheeler is doing TERRIBLE today? 1 fish? Maybe he is so caught up on AOY that he's not worried about this tourney? Or maybe he's going to climb up from behind. I'm not sure...

I doubt he craps out totally, but I think the changing conditions has effected his spots. AOY is much deserved, he is a hammer.

I wonder how this MN law stuff will change if anything the outcome of the tournament. If they make a big enough stink out of it, I could see some other anglers calling foul.

I hope the DNR does something about it.  If anything, pro anglers on camera should represent a good example and follow the local laws to a T.  They all know the rules ahead of time, or at least they certainly should.  Local laws always trump circuit rules.

The only time two lines can be used here on inland waters is when ice fishing.

I feel like the only thing that can really be done, is cite the Anglers who broke it if they go after them.

MLF will not do anything about it because someone obviously did not research the laws to make sure the MLF rules followed the state laws. I know it is the angler's responsibility to know the local laws etc. However, there is someone on the MLF payroll who does this as well, and to not announce that to the officials, or the anglers prior to was tournament director level failure.  I doubt they punish the anglers.

I agree.  Nothing will become of it.  The MLF directors might get a nasty gram from the DNR about this though.

Michael Neal, the leader, maybe just made a big statement, that may be making a lot of anglers life difficult, including Wheeler:

FFS has not been easy to use in the wind with 2ft rollers coming through....

Surely, FFS is easier to use and focus on in calmer conditions.

Nice to know Neal is using some instincts and catching em a 'little' more old school. Sounds like he has his FFS turned on, but it's just not quite as effective as it was earlier in the tourney..

MLF has issued a statement on the two-line violation.  Both Wheeler and Jones have been cited/fined by the DNR and will face no further disciplinary action.

ONAMIA, Minn. – Major League Fishing Bass Pro Tour Tournament Director Aaron Beshears issued the following statement today regarding the inadvertent Minnesota Department of Natural Resources fishing regulation violations at this week’s event at Mille Lacs Lake:

MLF Bass Pro Tour Rule No. 33 permits an angler to utilize a second line once per period. It was an oversight that this rule directly violated Minnesota DNR fishing regulations, and we did not properly communicate that to the anglers this week. Upon being made aware of the regulation, we immediately informed all Bass Pro Tour anglers in the competition that they were to immediately cease using two lines for the remainder of the event.

We contacted the Minnesota DNR, who clarified the violations, and we’re working closely with them to ensure that we’re in full alignment with state fish and game regulations.

Bass Pro Tour anglers Jacob Wheeler and Alton Jones, Jr., have both received citations from the Minnesota DNR for violation of the two-line regulation. They have accepted responsibility, will pay their fines, and will face no further disciplinary action.

We apologize to the State of Minnesota, the Minnesota DNR, and the anglers and outdoorsmen and women of Minnesota, and we look forward to wrapping up our regular season in what has been a fantastic tournament for us here at Mille Lacs Lake.
