My favorite rod a Kistler California Series Senko rod that I bought in like 2005 had an accident. Rod was a 6-10 but I rolled down the rear window in my Tahoe and before realizing some of my rod tips were against the glass I rolled it up. Broke about an inch off the rod which I know can be fixed but it will never be the same again. This rod has caught 5 of my biggest 10 bass and while not the most sensitive it has been the best creature bait rod ever. I will have it repaired as I owe it that much, but I guess it is time to replace it with something better.

I feel your pain. I just did the exact same thing Friday night. I turned a 7 footer into a 6' 8". Good luck on your replacement.

What was your casualty?

This is how I broke my first rod, It was a very cheap saltwater spinning rod, but the sound of the graphite snapping still haunts me.

It was just a cheap Lew's Hank Parker speed stick.

My condolences on your loss

Time to get the waterworks going and give good ole’ Trey a call!

Problem is with Kistler is they have used so many blank manufacturers over the years nobody knows what was used? This is why I love St. Croix rods! I know based on their system how a rod will feel without ever touching one for the most part. Looking into options for a custom rod to replace this right now since I cannot find a used one anywhere.

Yeah I agree….it’s the one thing that has kept me away from them. Lack of consistency in components. Should’ve just kept the NFC blanks for their builds.

The majority of my rods are older Kistler KLX series.  I bought a KLX UL spinning rod once and the very first time I took it out, I broke it at the ramp in the dark before even making a cast with it!

It was laying along side a front cleat on the boat and I somehow looped a mooring line around it in the pre-dawn darkness.  When I pulled the line tight on the cleat, I remember hearing a small "snick".  That little noise was the sound of the top four inches of the rod breaking off.  ?

Just out of curiosity, what are the specs of that rod?

Just wondering if it's a easy match to an existing NFC blank.

I'd like to know what inconsistencies your talking about ? I have both NFC Z Bones and the new version as well. Both are fantastic rods.

The problem with NFC was Supply and some quality issues. He has to have blanks to build rods.

Heck, I love the NFC blanks but it seems they have trouble keeping their own brand ( Edge ) supplied.

He had a issue years back with the older LTA series that's no secret

Lack of consistency in blank suppliers. Each reintroduction of a series typically has a different blank. 2019 models had the NFC blanks and then I believe in 2021, they refreshed and now have a different blank.

Of course, this could also happen with various other manufacturers in retrospect for all we know.

The Z-bones and Helium are on my radar I will say. I do like the bare bones simplicity look as opposed to JDM bling.

He used NFC for The KLX, Helium and Z bone for years until the change in late '19 .

They bring good money on the secondary market. Like the pre Rapala wiggle wart and Gen 1 vixen the prices go up once they become scarce.

Ah, sounds like a mb705 cut down 2". I read before that NFC made a few Kistler specific blanks, but can't confirm.

Man that crunch is always sickening. It's like hearing a glass break in a restaurant or something. Always cringe. Sorry for your loss

I bought this rod in January of 2005 and I think it is built on a Rainshadow blank?

Blast from the past.  I owned a few California Series back in the day.

Possibly an rx6 or rx7 both still available I believe.  Let me know if I can help you out.
