Line for new Antares 70a

Featured Replies

Hey Guys, I just bought a new antares 70a and it is now my favorite reel.  I currently have 12 pound tatsu on it but when the time comes, I want to put some nice smackdown or some type of braid on it.  What pound braid do you guys would give me the best versatility and casting distance?

I wouldn't go under 30# on casting gear...other than that, pick your poison.

30 or 40 pound braid for all around bait casting use.

I use 30lb power pro super slick on my 70 & 100 size reels with standard spools.  It can get squirrely until it's dialed in.  40lb gives me less trouble off the bat.

Would 30 or 40 lb sufix 832 be good?

Absolutely. 832 is outstanding. Go with the 40#. It's only .002 thicker than the 30#, and there's no noticeable difference in casting distance or visibility.

43 Hitena braid is what I use on my Antares. Best braid I have used.

Would that be the airbraid silky version?  I tried the airbraid razor on ultra light trout rigs (3lb and 5lb), but think the true to rating break rating was just a little to light for me, had a hard time with knot strength and knot slippage.  Ended up with Sufix 131 6lb that has been working ok.   Have been considering the higher tests airbraid silky for bass rigs (spinning and baitcasting).

I use both the Supercast and Silky in the gray color.
