Finesse jigs

Featured Replies

Hey guys being here on tva lakes this is all new to me clear water and cold water since I’m coming from south Louisiana. I have some 5/16 oz finesse jigs. Just curious had anyone ever fished a jig that light in 30 foot of water ?

Wind,  current,  size of the bait, and my level of patience determine how much weight I need this time of year.  When the current is taking your bait in one direction and the wind is taking the boat in the opposite direction it can be difficult.  I typically use the lightest weight that will work.   Sometimes that’s 1/8 oz and sometimes it’s 3/4 oz.

Yes I have a lot.  I generally do it vertically instead of horizontally.

Down size your line .011D or less and use FC line.

What Tom said. 10lb or 12lb FC will sink a little faster than 15-20lb.

In that deep of water, I'm usually in the 1/2-3/4oz range.

Yes, it will work fine.

First use no more than 12# fluorocarbon. The thinner the line, the faster it will sink.

The second thing going on here is that while the finesse jig has usually significantly less weight to it, they also have less body to catch the water and slow the fall which plays in your favor in deeper water.
