Is lead wire wrapped around the hooks the only/best method? Is there any concern with lead poisoning or are most jighead manufacturers still using lead anyway?

What kind of swimbaits? Soft ones you can use nail weights.

 

Hard ones, play with the hook weight, add lead sticky strips. I don't like adding anything to the hooks as this adds a piece that can reduce hookups

Hard plastic/resin.  How do you add lead sticky strips, and doesn’t increasing hook weight mean increasing the size?

Ceiling fan balance adhesive lead strips or Storm Suspend Dots or Strips.

Adding weighted hooks use solder wrapped around the treble hook shank.

Not the size - if you are using a 1x hook, move up to a 2x. I know some.people don't mind wrapping wire around the hook shank but I prefer to use sticky suspend dots. Most decent glides have weight chambers these days

Simply have in your arsenal the appropriate weighted hooks to match the swimbaits you want to throw.

I have 3 different size Keitechs and have 3 different size weighted hooks......1/8 being my preferred but occasionally downsize to 1/16 in shallow grass.

What Tom said and call it a day. Personally use other hooks, lead wire or storm strips. Hooks if I find what's needed to get the desired paused movement, or ad lead wire/strips.........whichever I find first.

What is a 1x vs 2x hook, how is that not referring to size?

A 2x hook is a bit thicker than a 1x making it stronger...it also adds a slight bit of weight.

There is a reason why swimbait guys have so many trebles and split rings. Every resin bait has its own nuances and the same set up may not work like you want on each bait. ABS plastic injected baits are much more consistent but with different water Temps you may want different hooks/splits. 

 

Each manufacturer will have size 1/0 hooks in a 1x, 2x, 3x, 4x and above. Each manufacturer uses different materials and the hooks weigh a different amount. Play with hooks and find what works for you.

Ryugi weight strips work well.

I used lead wire.
