Help Choosing a Swimbait Rod

Featured Replies

I've been wanting to get into swimbait fishing recently and conveniently enough at my local shop a guy brought in 2 used swimbait rods that he's selling super cheap due to downsizing his arsenal. The two rods are:

Dobyns Champion XP Swimabit Rod 8'0" Heavy (806)

G Loomis Swimbait Rod 7'10-11"

my hesitancy with the G Loomis is there was no model name or anything of that nature on the rod other than "G Loomis Swimbait" so it's hard for me to do any digging on the true value of the rod. It is a purple-ish maroon color if that helps anybody identify it.

Both of these rods are being sold for $120 a piece which is an absolute steal and I've bought from this guy before so I know he's got legit stuff

Help me choose!

Loomis then sell to me for 150.  What's the code on the Loomis?  954? 955? 965?

Lol. Great rod

To me they’re both worth that price. If I was to only get one it would be the Loomis.

Buy both and sell the Loomis for 200.

I would grab them both as well.   Try them both and decide which one you like best and sell the other one.   You will easily get your money back.   Or keep both and feel really lucky.

What a steal, congrats.

I'd keep them both, swimbaits are super addictive

Can't comment on the G Loomis rod, but I can tell you that the 806 is a great rod. I had an 806 from 2009, and I could bomb 6 or 8" Hudds with ease, reel was a Shimano 301 E7. Hopefully the newer 806's are the same.
