6" Magdraft

Featured Replies

Would a 7'3 heavy rod rated for 1oz handle a 6 inch magdraft? I know it wouldn't be ideal but could I get away with it? It's the heaviest rod I have.

I'm about to test one out tomorrow myself on a Johnny Morris Carbonlite 2.0 7'3" MH 3/8-1oz.  Its tied on and just letting it hang, it seems the rod will handle it.  Having some flex I think is important for that big treble hook to stay pinned.

I would think it would be perfect.  The only trouble I get into is with the freestyle on bombed out casts and quick/early bites.  With that much line out, I've had better results with a XH getting a good hookset.

I toss them a bunch. The 3 rods that get used are a Lavante Perfect Pitch, Zodias 7'5" Hvy/Fast and a Lancer Pro 7'2" Hvy/Fast. Brian.

My Magdraft rods:

Megabass Levante Perfect Pitch

St Croix Victory 74Hf

IRod Genesis Fred's Magic Stick

I think you're going to find you'll want a bit more rod for the Magdraft.

Tbh I use a crank bait rod for the 6". 13 Fishing Black Defy gen 2, I think, rated up to 1.5oz. You should be ok just be careful about bombing long casts.

For a regular 6" magdraft any mh rod will work. For a freestyle, a H will be fine.
