Adirondack/Capital Region Fishing Reports

I’d love to get a thread going for the Capital Region/Adirondack guys to post reports. I don’t see many posts from this area on the North East section but I know there are at least a few of us. Albany, Schenectady, Rensselaer, Saratoga, Warren, Washington, Essex and Hamilton counties. @NYWayfarer, @KSanford33, @desmobob or any other capital region or Adirondack angler let’s see some 2023 reports!

Hopefully I’ll have some to share tomorrow. Getting out for the first time tomorrow afternoon and hopefully several times this week. I’ll be fishing Warren and Schenectady counties most likely.

Good luck tomorrow! I'll be getting out later this week, but I'll happily share my reports. Thanks for putting this together.

My boat is still covered up in the yard!   I'll probably be doing a couple of weeks of float tube fly fishing in Lake George before I launch the boat in Lake Champlain for bass fishing.  Sometimes I don't get out bass fishing until I'm back from an annual Spring Cape Cod striper fishing trip in May.

Great idea for a regional report thread for our area!  I'll be pleased to participate.

Got out on a small lake in Warren County earlier today. Fought the wind and managed 1 decent largemouth on a spinnerbait. Water temps were 46-48°, and all the coves still had ice. Will

be back at it Thursday.

My favorite small lake for bass is still iced in.  Probably will open up by the end of this week...

After these next few days, should open up all the waters in the state! Hopefully you can get out there soon.

I’ll be hitting the same lake in Warren county tomorrow and Saturday. Only a matter of time before I run into a spring biggun on this lake.

It hit 91˚ here today, smashing the old record of 82˚.  ?

If the ice isn't off all the ponds in the hills by this weekend, I'd be pretty surprised!

Tough fishing today. Surface temps were 55-64°, and air temps of 86°. Saw some really big bass cruising the shallows but were acting extremely skiddish. Also saw a very large pike spawning in about 10” of water. I was very happy to see this because I’ve been a little concerned for the pike population on this lake. But also it scares me how vulnerable these large esox are when they spawn. If I was a poacher, I could have had that 3’+ pike in the boat very easily.

Was able to get 2 small bass throwing to the downed timber. But man it was a grind. Fished all day for 2 fish and lost a one or two more.

Had an hour or so at sunrise this morning so I walked the bank at a lake close to me that I haven’t fished. Yeah I’ll definitely be returning with my boat very soon. Caught a nice fat 4-7 and a few other decent bass and a large crappie. Looking forward to picking this lake apart from my boat.

Happy to see some Bass catches out of these parts.

I got out last week for the first time this year. Life has thrown me a few curveballs with aging parents and in laws in the hospital and rehab all at the same time.

The Warren County fish hatchery stocks Glen Lake and a few local ponds with Trout early April.

That’s usually my targets in April until the Hudson River warms up after all the snow melt comes down off the mountain.

I use a baitcaster and medium casting rod 10# mono to cast spoons for Brook Trout. The heavier line helps because I have a good chance of catching Pickerel with the same techniques.

Had another hour to kill at sunrise so I walked the bank in the rain. One decent Larry before I had to get out and go to work. They’re definitely biting. I think the heat wave really sped up the fish right into prespawn, bypassing the typical ice-out lull.

I had a great day on Iroquois Lake in Schenectady on Saturday. I spent the majority of the day working on house projects, but then freed up some time in the afternoon and went over there. The weeds are about a foot below the surface in most places, so it seemed like an excellent time to throw a fluke. As it was darting through the weeds, this ol' girl decided to get it. This is my 2nd largest bass ever (by length), so I'm hoping it's a sign on things to come this season.

Got into some real good prespawn fish today. Very cold and breezy out on the water but they were munching. This next month is the time!

First Bass of 2013 for me. A real record breaker!

I saw this dink cruising the bank while Trout fishing. Picked up my panfish setup and caught him. Got that monkey of my back.

Caught and released 6 Brook Trout today. Had a visit from a conservation officer asking for my license. I have it on my phone. Only the 4th time in my life I have been asked to see my fishing license.

Nice Brookies, I get checked 4 times a year easy, sometimes 4 times a month! Haha

My prespawn hot streak continued in Warren County today. All they wanted was the jig. This one went 5-2:

I’ll be giving the schroon river a shot today, hopefully to get on some trout. Gonna do a little pond fishing as well for bass.

Got into some good fish today. Cold and foggy start turned into dead calm and sunny. Spinnerbaits, plastics, frogs and poppers took fish today.
