Quantum Smoke X 100

Featured Replies

First post here. Hello everyone!  Just getting into using baitcaster reels.

Does anyone have experience with the Quantum Smoke X 100?  Tacklewarehouse has it in clearance for about $110. I'm looking to get a new reel for around $100 and was planning on the Shimano SLX but then saw this.

Are there other reels I should be looking at instead?  This will be for a bass rod, probably Fenwick Eagle or Ugly stick. Thanks!

I've fished Quantum reels for over the last 10yrs. Had 1 with an issue. 1 out of 20 reels or more, lost count and have been solid reels. I don't think you'll be disappointed.

It's essentially a Smoke S3 PT with a brass crankshaft vs the Smoke S3's aluminum one, and the X has a heavier handle, hence the weight difference between the two. That's good because the Smoke S3 is an excellent reel that lasts through heavy duty fishing and is a very good caster.

I have the original Smoke and a Tour S3 PT. Both have been great. If this new version is anything like the reels i have, it should be a winner.  I would rethink the rod though. IMHO,  the rod is most important part of the equation and should be your largest investment.

Thank you all!  I appreciate your feedback and experiences.

Should I focus on a medium heavy rod or medium?  This will mostly be for bass but may see trout as well. Most fish don't get real big where I am in Utah.

I have about 8 Quantum Smoke reels.  At discounted prices, easily best reels I have had for the money.  Absolutely love them.

I repped for Quantum and the smoke line both rods and reels were my personal favorites.  Great combos.

I have the new smoke x baitcasting reel I bought it this winter on sale, but I’ve only fished it once so I can’t say too much about it other than it’s probably the farthest casting reel I own…… the stock spool bearings it comes with are easily the best out of all the casting reels I own I was surprised to be honest…… but it’s not as smooth on the retrieve as some of the other reels I own but that’s not to say it’s bad at all

the rubber knobs felt grippy nothing special but they’ll work fine

that’s really all I can say about the reel it seems like a good reel and I’m going to keep using it I have no complaints after my one use ??‍♂️ I paid 119.99 Canadian for it also

Well I went a totally different route. I went into Cabelas and they had the Extreme XML on sale for $99 and I went with that.

Went out today for a just a little and really liked it.
