I rigged something similar years ago on my small boat when my big boat was in the shop. I have a comical photo somewhere, not quite as advanced as yours 

 

found it 

 

fill the water bottle just right and you get a perfect reading haha. I remember showing that to my wife and she said “is that MY Nalgene???”
