Look what a file and I did with a smithwick jerkbait

Featured Replies

I was tired of looking at a smithwick jerkbait in its stock color as it looked so fake. I always wanted a frosty clear lure so i took a small file and went to work. Very happy with the outcome. The newly remade smithwick frosty clear i hope to throw when the snow and ice melt in the next 2 weeks.

I've got two Rogues that are dupe colors....might have to do that with one of them.

Clear looks a lot like white in the water. Even more when it's sanded or filed and roughed up.

With some baits you can put a hairdryer to it to heat it up and the paint will flake. It's still a pain to get the little bits off, but you can end up with a smooth clear surface if you're lucky. You have to be careful though - you can easily warp a jerkbait.

Here is a Kevin Vandam i filed off last year to a bone white. I added a little orange Spike IT for the heck of it. This one catches walleye, smallies, and pike so far.
