I've been looking at this jig in 1/4 oz for a while now. Can I fish this on a medium heavy/fast rod with a 40 lb 832 and a 15 lb flourocarbon leader without having to worry about bending out the hook? What are some good trailers? How does this jig do in cover?

You certainly could w/ a light drag, but that rod/line set up seems more appropriate for a regular swimjig.   It comes in 1/4oz, you could just trim out some skirt and then lean on them a bit more if they are in heavier cover.  I throw the finesse on a M w/ 11lb armilo.  Gambler little EZ and EZ and largo shads are my current favorite trailers for lighter swimjigs.

I run virtually an identical setup, mh/f 40lb braid to 12-15lb leader, set your drag appropriately for the rods power and you shouldn't have any issues. When I first got them I was surprised as the hook on them is beefier than what I expected or would consider finesse. I run 3.75 keitechs or the small rage menace trailers. For cover I'd probably rate my setup for moderate cover, maybe moderate-heavy if you go straight braid (all subjective to your part of the country of course).

If you are worried about bending a medium wire premium jig hook on a bass it doesn’t happen!

Bent hooks happen occasionally trying to force a snagged jig or when removing any hook improperly by pounding on it or hanking it out. 

I use 5/0 Gamakatsu #114 jig hooks with .047D forged wire considered a lighter wire hook and never bent it open on a fish.

Does well in cover. I burn they over and through topped out grass in the summer without issues. Prefer mid size rage bug or trimmed regular rage bug for maintaining lift in higher water columns and bass assassin 3.5" boss shiner for a paddle tail option. The boss shiner paddle tails are fairly durable and I like the 3.5" for 1/4 DG finesse swim jigs. 

The hook has some flex, but I have a hard time imagining a Jersey bass bending that hook out in open water.  Ive horsed a few fish in over 6 without any issues.  I use a 7'2 MH ModF or 7'3 MH F and with either rod I dont see a considerable increase in penetration when compared to slightly heavier gauge hook.  I found the brush guard to be a little too light to throw in anything but sparse grass.  I stopped replacing my DJ finesse SJ losses the year before last as Ive found the Greenfish swim jig, which is essentially the same jig with a hand tied skirt, heavier guard/hook and integrated line tie, to be a more versatile swim jig overall.  

As far as trailers go, I want something thats going to make the bait roll.  My top 2 are the 4" Xzone swammer and the R2S D walker 100.  I think the swammer has a little more roll, but they dont last nearly as long as a D walker.

Dirty jigs are some of the best…

xzone swammer 3.5 is good and tactical bassin says the storm largo shad in the 3.5 size is the perfect trailer with a good amount of roll.  They recently put out a YouTube video about the info you are wanting .

That's why I had this question. The largo shad was probably what I was going to get, but I was just seeing what people on the forums thought.

I live in NJ, but I also fish a NY lake with a lot of wood, and other heavy cover. I also have to worry about bowfin some places where I fish.
