Your first fishing boat

Featured Replies

When did you all get your first fishing boat? What was the make and model? Did you get an amazing deal on it? You can even include jon boats if you want.

I got a 15ft tracker aluminium Jon boat with a 9.9 Merc. (Boat and trailer were brand new). Cost me 2,000 dollars of my hard earned money when I was 16 I'm 18 now.

Sounds great! I'm looking for my first boat. I'll take a jon or a fixer upper old fishing boat- anything really. I've been searching craigslist like crazy  :;).

I used my 1999 income tax refund to buy a Nova 1436 jonboat and trailer and a 30 lb motorguide trolling motor.

I was 20 (22 years ago) got a 14" Jon boat 5hp and trailer for $500 sold it 8 years later for $450

about 7,8 years ago I bought a 15' Thundercraft with a 70hp and trailer included. I only paid $300 for the whole thing. A buddy clean the carbs out and  the motor ran great. I had to install new electrical wires and lights. New floor, pedestal, and seats. A new rack and pinion steering cable. I might put close to $800 into but well worth it. Ran for three years and got my money out of it. Motor blew a ring. I used that boat for fishing and swimming. I still have the  boat and hope to get running this year. I used that boat for croakers and catfish.

14' Jon boat with a 20 horse Johnson in 1994.

1972 16' Mark Twain Tri-Hull with a 65hp Evinrude. It had a push button "Selectric" shifter (I think that's what it was called). Bought it for $1600 and rode it hard for several years. Great little boat. The floor eventually rotted and I sold it for $600 to a friend with a body shop. He removed the cap, replaced the stringers and floor, and got another 10 years out of it.

I need to find a picture of that boat. Great memories.

10 ft bassraider with trailer.  boat had more silicone holding it together than an L.A. housewife.

paid $0.00

Still wish I had it........  its been 6 years

My father and I bought a 2002 Tracker Pro-Angler V16 w/ a 25hp motor a couple years ago. We got a pretty sweet deal. The guy had it sitting in his drive-way the whole time he owned it. Just started re-carpeting it yesterday.

My first boat was home built by my dad from wood, next was aluminum built by Ouachita Jon Boats, & my first tournament boat was a Loweline Hustler.

My first outboard was a Johnson Sea King 5 hp ;)

You every think about customizing your rig? Looks like a plain ol' canoe to me ;D

First boat was a bass hunter w/ original 19# thrust trolling motor and seats. Paid $50 for it used and still use it for pond fishing, although i did upgrade to a 31# trolling motor .

You're right - it's just plain as dirt. I need to figure out how to get on a nautical version of "Pimp My Ride"... ;D ;D

Bought a brand new Tracker 14' jon. Customized the crud out of it. Rear and front casting decks. full electronics setup, bilge pump, nav lights, redneck live well. Loved that boat and it saw some serious mileage on the lake.

Course I love my PT 175 now even more

1976 - 10' Monarch with a 3 hp Chief with the gas tank in the top of the motor.

Got my first boat when I was 9 years old. A 14' Sea King semi V with two "wooden outboards" (a.k.a. oars) ;)  Paid $300 for boat and trailer.  It was a few years old when I bought it.

Just sold it 5 years ago after I got my Strat. Wish I still had that little old boat just for nostalgia if nothing else. But the wife can't understand why a man needs one boat let alone two. ;D

When I was in highschool my dad got me a 1952 (I think) 14ft row boat.  It had a huge dent in it and a hole in the floor.  He patched it up, banged the dent out and painted it red.  Strapped on a 7.5hp Merc and it was mine.  Even got the old lady next door to let me use her boat lift since her husband had passed and she didn't even have a boat anymore.  I caught a ton of fish from that thing, I named it "The Red Torpedo."  Sold it when I joined the Army.
