Buzzbaits in Fall

I have not been making any kind of change recently just because the calendar reads September. I tossed jigs in 30ft last time out even though YouTube is telling me to fish shallow with small lures ??‍♂️. I don’t really think I’ll be switching things up for the last two weeks I’ll be here in TX before I go to GA for a month. Not sure how much fishing I’ll be doing in GA.

So, I did not wind up committing to throwing the buzzbait in the fall. I also just have the feeling that it is an inappropriate lure for the main lake I fish.

It was a nice thought, and I do like buzzbaits

Same.  The same pattern has held for me the past month because even though on the calendar we went from summer to fall, the weather is definitely still more like summer.

Buzzbaits are my favorite lure to fish. That being said, I havent caught a single fish on one this year. It just hasnt been a buzzbait year.

I wouldn't want to do it because I find bass in the fall aren't as consistent on topwaters as they are on mid depth presentations.  Plus, they often key in on dying baitfish, so stuff that you can float, suspend, or sink in an erratic pattern (like a spoon) often do pretty well.  And they're not always in a super aggressive mood to chase fast moving baits around, and it's hard to fish a buzzbait at anything but warp speed.

But, buzzbaits definitely do work pretty well in the fall, and I've caught a lot of bass that way.  So there are definitely worse baits to choose if you're just going to stick with one.

Great points here. I, too, have found that a subsurface running lure like a spinnerbait is overall more consistent than a buzzbait. But, depending on several factors, I overall give the nod to the buzzbait as the better choice for chasing better quality fish. That’s really tough to say because a spinnerbait catches quality too, but certain times of the year and under certain conditions I think the buzzbait is the better choice
