erice97699
I was fishing with some friends from work yesterday and I was told by one of my coworkers that " you were all wrong yesterday, you cannot throw a crankbait on a spinning rod, it does not run correctly on spinning gear." I was like I don't understand I have never heard that ever in my life. My coment back to him was that I have been successful using crankbaits with spinning gear and Baitcasting gear and I could not tell you that there was a difference at all. Am I correct in my view or is baitcasting gear better for crankbait fishing? Eric
fishbear
I throw crankbaits primarily on a baitcaster, but I know guys who could not use a baitcaster if thier life depended on it ;D. They catch fish using a spinning rod for crankbaits, spinnerbaits, etc.......

Super User Grey Wolf Posted October 24, 2006 Super User Share Posted October 24, 2006 Tell your buddy he's full of it ! Where did he get the idea that crank baits don't run correctly using spinning reels ?
Global Moderator roadwarrior Posted October 24, 2006 Global Moderator Share Posted October 24, 2006 Some guys are more comfortable using a baitcaster or spinning tackle for certain lures or techniques, but there is no "functional" reason why either type of equipment can't be used. Super User MALTESE FALCON Posted October 24, 2006 Super User Share Posted October 24, 2006 YOUR FRIEND WAS WRONG. I USED CRANKBAITS WITH SPINNING GEAR FOR MANY YEARS WITH GREAT SUCCESS BEFORE I SWITCHED TO BAITCASTING GEAR.
Super User senile1 Posted October 24, 2006 Super User Share Posted October 24, 2006 " you were all wrong yesterday, you cannot throw a crankbait on a spinning rod, it does not run correctly on spinning gear." That's a pretty wild statement from your friend. Many people use spinning gear for crankbaits. Some people prefer spinning gear when throwing very light crankbaits because there is no chance of backlash. I use both. As RW stated, there is no functional reason why either one won't do the job. Triton9
i think it depends on what you are more comfortable with. but i primarily throw them on a BC, i just feel that i can do more with a crank when i use it on a BC.
New Bass Man
I've fished em on spinning tackle but I like fishing em on baitcaster better. I believe your friend was in error.
Super User RoLo Posted October 29, 2006 Super User Share Posted October 29, 2006 Am I correct in my view or is baitcasting gear better for crankbait fishing? I think you already know the answer. You can't force a Republican to vote Democrat, and you can't force me to throw crankbaits with casting gear Roger
