Revo5 SX or Tatula SV

Featured Replies

I need to update some equipment from my old Ambassador reels that I haven't had out in years.  I've read good reviews on both the Revo5 SX and Tatula SV.  I'm curious opinions on them.  I'm just looking for something for all around use and hopefully a bit more backlash resistant than my old reels.

I have a Revo 4SX and the Tat SV. I have 3 Lews Tournament Pros.

I won’t hesitate to buy another Lews Tournament Pro, I’ll never buy another Revo, and if the SVs went on sale for $100 I’d consider it.

Take a look at Lews.

Tatula sv’s are really good for the money. I own four and all going strong. They will certainly help with backlash.

Tatula SV if backlash resistance is your main goal. Best reel out there in that department

No experience with the Revo, but I’m very happy with my Tatula SV reels. Very happy.

I’ve seen them on Amazon for 210-220. That’s a heck of a deal

I used to like the Revo reels and have a number of gen 3 Revo S and STX, though I have started to give some of them away. It used to be that the Revo S was the centrifugal brake model, the SX had the magnetic brakes, and the STX had the dual centrifugal/mag brakes.

I believe the gen 5 Revo SX has the dual brakes now, but I could be wrong.

All that being said, all my recent reels have been a majority of Daiwa followed by a number of Shimano.

I like the Tat SV reels and have a couple of the 2017 CT framed versions as well as a couple of the 2020 versions with the smaller frames. I also have a number of the Tatula CT Type R reels. I like all of them.
