Little offhand comment too. Some Encouragement for trying to find ways to get more sleep, and also some encouragement for those who aren’t able to get enough. First, encouragement to get more sleep. Chess is the best activity I have ever found for actually measuring how my brain performs on different levels of sleep. I can tell you, the difference is great. No matter how hard I try, I cannot play really good chess on 4-5 hours of sleep. It just ain’t happening. But, I will still play adequately. Here’s where the encouragement for folks who can’t get adequate sleep is. The human body is capable of some amazing things. We can perform at an adequate level on abysmal sleep. Sooner or later, we will need it, but we are okay if we have to push through. Y’all with sleep struggles, we’re sorry and we sympathize/empathize with you, but y’all will continue to crush life anyway

Adequate time spent daily in real sunlight and some manual activity or excercise has always worked for me. My wife says I'm a master sleeper, as I can sleep 14 hours straight if I  don't set an alarm and my pulse drops into the mid 30's BPM.

Some nights I do self medicate.?

Years ago I started taking Melatonin before bed and I developed debilitating headaches. I stopped taking the Melatonin and the headaches went away. Had a family friend who also suffered from the headaches from the Melatonin as well. YMMV
