What's your lightest...

Featured Replies

Daiwa Silver Creek Glass Progressive with a raced out Millionaire Ringa SSS, 8.9 oz.  The reel itself weighs only 6.3 oz, a feather for a round reel.

Balance of the whole setup is key.

The overall feel in your hand of a balanced combo will feel lighter to you than the actual weight of it.

Every time I bought a new rod I would try different reels of the capacity and drag rating I need to find that sweet spot.

The only exception would be a flippin combo where I want it more “tip heavy” than the rest.

I know I am not in you guys world. But I was curious so I weighed two of mine that I thought would be my lightest. And the winner is my St Croix Mojo Bass MJC71XHF with my Daiwa Tatula CT at 12.24 ounces. That is with 15-pound Seaguar 15lb Fluorocarbon on it.

I’m a spin guy only:

Rod weight: 80 grams

Reel weight: 139 grams

Just going by feel, it is probably the Shimano SLX on the BPS 6'6" m/f Bionic Blade rod.

Shimano Core 50mg7 paired with an Okuma Helios 7' rod total weght 8.8oz.  The balance of the combo is very good as well not tip heavy at all.
