Legend Tournament or IMX

Featured Replies

Which is the better rod?  Or are they not even comparable?  I have an IMX that I love but I have never fished with high end St Croix.

The St. Croix Legend Elite is comparable to the G.Loomis IMX series.

i would choose the LT over the IMX. that's my choice though. you should go somewhere and handle both of them and see which one you prefer.

Aaron, these two rods that you mentioned are such high end models that you will have to handle each(preferably side by side) so that you(and only you) can make that decision. Either way you go you are going to have some of the best gear available. I'm jealous!

id go legened tourny ...... sweet rods .... in fact ill be getting a few legened tournys this year before our season starts ....

The IMX is lighter in weight, while both are probably comparable in sensitivity.  The IMX has a distinct price advantage when purchasing it from fat fish farmer  ;)

The St. Croix Legend Elite is comparable to the G.Loomis IMX series.

I hate to beat a dead horse, but I continue to reject the Loomis "x" is comparable to the St. Croix "Y"

I find this to an oversimplication that does not do justice to either rodbuilder or potential buyer.

The question I would ask "is what do you want the rod to do?"

I've said it before, but the St. Croix, TBC68MXF is the best rod I have ever used for topwaters.  Y'all know that I am also a fan of Loomis, and have IMX and GLX's including two of the recoil guide BCR GLX series.

The rods are built by two outstanding companies, using differnet blanks, different methods, different tapers, and a different approach into how to build a quality rod.

The "which is better" approach really says nothing.   When you reach this level of qualtiy and expense you have to know what you want, and you have to put the rod in your hand.  Otherwise, go with the rod you are most familiar with .   What I mean is if you can't get to a store that carries the Tournament bass casting rod, yet you own and enjoy fishing the IMX series.  Then getting another IMX in a different power rating would no doubt be something you would be happy with.

I generally agree with avid. My comment regarding comparisons are my perception of weight, balance and sensitivity. Both the IMX and St. Croix LE series are oustanding rods. I haven't fished the LT, so I can't comment directly on the question posed.

Aaron go with the loomis.  you have a better warrenty anf you know what you have.

Aaron, Avid gave you the best advise, you really have to handle and compare the rods in question for yourself. I said it's like between pepsi and coke, but what I mean is that neither is 'better', but both are different. Roadwarrior rates the legend elite as comparable to the IMX, and my own perception is the legend elite is far above an IMX and more comparable to the GLX! Believe me, I own and use all of these models and each has a different feel, balance, action, sensitivity..all of these qualities are subjective to the individual. The legend tournament that Avid mentioned is a great rod, I have that rod in spinning and love it, that extra fast action is really nice at times. enjoy whatever you purchase, you really cannot go wrong with any of these rods.

well st croix offers a great warrenty .... so dont be fooled .... the croix warrenty is every bit as good as a loomis warrenty... ;)

Aaron go with the loomis. you have a better warrenty anf you know what you have.

There is no finer warranty or customer service than St. Croix.  Gloomis is equal to but not superior.  If warranty is your primary consideration, then you are really stuck.  Example.  On my first TBC68MXF I broke the reel seat by overtightning.  I called St. Croix and told them exactyly what happened.  Namely that I tighten the reel seat screw by hand then use rubber coated pliers to give a little extra turn.  I have always done this, but this time it was too much.

they told me to ship the rod back w/the $20.00 bench fee.

Two weeks later I got a brand new rod.

If you can find better customer service than that then buy it.

You won't be disappointed. ENJOY

Ronnie

Fatfishfarmer is a great guy to do business with.

My last GLX arrived from him broken in two places.  I got really nervous because this was a BCR series and cost plenty.

Check this out.  He immeately emailed me a return label that he paid for.  I sent back the rod.  He sent me a new rod and GLoomis T shirt as his way of apologizing for the inconvenience.   How cool is that?

You will love the rod.

Good luck and have fun.
